In celebration of the life and ideas of Charles Darwin, join F&M in Mayser Gymnasium on Thursday, February 16, at 11:30 am for,  “On the Origin of Species: Historical and Biological Reflections on A Paradigm-Changing Text,” to be presented by Dr. James Strick, Professor, Program Chair of Environmental Studies, Program Chair of Science, Technology and Society, and Dr. Daniel Ardia, Charles A. Dana Professor of Biology, Associate Dean of the Faculty. 

\n\n

Dr Ardia will discuss the importance of the Origin of  Species for biology and medicine, and Dr. Strick will discuss how historians view the book, its place in culture, and its historical impact. According to Dr. Strick, \"this is an incredibly important book, one of those books that everyone wants to have an opinion about, but almost nobody has actually read. Everybody should come and learn more about this book.\"

The exhibit of Darwin's books will be accessible during weekdays in the Archives & Special Collections Reading Room, on the first floor of the Martin Library. While some of the books will be in secure cases due to their value, others from our collections and lent by Roger Thomas, John W. Nevin Memorial Professor of Geosciences, Emeritus, will be more accessible. More information on this exciting exhibit will be shared soon.
